| Has Description | 'Outrage by the Blacks. — Intelligence has been forwarded us (P. D. Telegram, August 1) by a Nebo correspondent of an outrage committed by the blacks on a white, man and woman (new chums) between Nebo and Grosvenor Downs. It appears that they were walking to the station carrying their swags, and the attack was made in that desolate part of the road between Oxford and Grosvenor Downs stations, which may be described as being about thirty miles from anywhere. It is also a rather lonely road, and not much traversed by travellers. The attack was suddenly made, the man receiving two nasty boomerang wounds, one of which cut a piece of flesh quite out of his arm. Fortunately the woman was not touched and the man was not too much hurt to run, so both threw down their swags and bolted. Satisfied apparently with securing the swags, the gentle blacks did not pursue, and their victims escaped. On arriving at Grosvenor Downs, a special messenger was despatched to Nebo for the police, who were at the time patrolling Collaroy station. It is to be hoped that under the able leadership of Mr. Stuart, the troopers will duly disperse the vagabonds whose attempt to murder has so narrowly failed.' (Telegraph 17 August 1874, p2) | [1] |
