Has Full Description of Event'Native Mounted Police Barracks Rockhampton Novr 3rd 1858 Commandant of N.M. Police Force, Moreton Bay Sir, ... 3rd. Having joined my Detachment with that of 2nd Lt Wheeler, we proceeded towards the head of the Calliope, and after several days search divided the party—two days afterwards I came upon a large camp of Blacks, at the edge of a scrub. Five of the murderers were shot by the Police. No doubt more of them would have fallen, had not information of an approach been given by their Gins, who saw us in the open country. We followed the trail next day for five or six miles till it brought us to impenetrable country and Pine scrubs. The rain falling in torrents several horses were knocked up, and the provisions all wet, I judged it expedient to return to Mr Clarke’s Station on the Calliope. From thence I arrived here last night after having been absent eighteen days and during which time we had fifteen days rain.'
