Has Description of EventhasDescriptionOfEvent
- April 7.— A few Blacks are reported to have been shot the other day within a mile or so of the town, by order of some police functionary. The particulars have not transpired." (Maryborough Chronicle, Wide Bay and Burnett Advertiser, 18 April 1861, p2) 'The natives have been assembling in large numbers in the neighbourhood of the town, and last night made an attack upon a woman in a tent in the outskirts. A requisition was sent by the inhabitants for protection, and the regular police went out and fired upon them without ball, which did not disperse them. This morning the native police attacked their camp, drove them over the river, and, I am sorry to say, killed five of their number.'
