Has Description of EventWe regret to hear that an outrage has been committed by the blacks on Mr. Tolme's station, Mackenzie River. Mr, Featherstonhaugh, who reached town on Sunday last, furnishes us with the following particulars:— While he (Mr. F.) was at Cooroorah, a man in Mr. Tolme's employ swam the Mackenzie, and came to Macfarlane's with intelligence that the blacks had killed two shepherds on an out station, and that the hutkeeper was missing, as well as all the sheep (2400) in charge of the murdered men. Whether the blacks had taken the sheep or not was not known. No Intelligence had been received as to the fate of the hutkeeper. A messenger was at once despatched to Willpend to give information to the Native police, but Lieutenant Brown and one trooper only were in camp there, who, accompanied by Messrs Cranston and Brahe, started for the scene of the massacre.[1]
