Has Description of EventhasDescriptionOfEvent
- We are informed by Lieutenant Marlow that large numbers of blacks had assembled in the vicinity of Jarvisfield station, about the middle of last month, coming from Rockingham Bay, Cleveland Bay, and Cape Upstart to assist at a grand "boora."[sic] They speared a mare on the station and made hostile demonstrations towards the whites, who, however, by the firm attitude they assumed, prevented the natives from committing the outrages they doubtless were quite in the humour for and would have attempted if they had not been overawed. ... Lieutenant Marlow took with him the section of troopers destined to be stationed on the Upper Burdekin, and succeeded in scattering the blackfellows. The police force for the Burdekin numbers one officer, five troopers, and eight horses, and is to be increased.
