Has Description of EventhasDescriptionOfEvent
- On the morning of the 4th the party took up the tracks, and at the first camp of blacks found a sock and a card; at the next camp a card also was found, and from that to the sixth camp cards and fragments of clothing, which were indubitable indications of their being on the right track. At the sixth camp they came up with the mob, mustering about 100, without counting gins, and speedily dispersed them in all directions. One blackfellow had on a cabbage-tree hat and a pair of socks; both hats belonging to the murdered travellers were recovered. It would appear that the party of blacks came over the dividing range between the Bogie and Burdekin Rivers, and that the unfortunate men must have walked right into the middle of the mob, without being aware of it. The tracks from the spot where the crime was committed to the camp where the mob was found led the native police party over a distance of fifty miles, although this last camp was only about six miles distant from the starting point.[1]all time · Row 0163 Eid 10778
