  • In addition to the twenty-five head of Mr. Seaward's cattle killed by the blacks recently, a very large number have been killed on Dangar and Bode's Strathdon and Gooraganga stations, Emmerson's stations at Eagle Vale and Proserpine, McCartney and Dempster's Bloomsbury station, and also on Messrs. McCartney and Graham's stations at St. Helen's and Jolimont. About seven weeks since the blacks seem to have made a simultaneous descent on all these stations, and applications for the Native Police poured in fast and furious.[1]all time · Row 0172 Eid 10788

Has Notes CommentsOriginal owners of this station were McCartney and Dalrymple in 1862, Dalrymple subsequently selling his shares to John, William and Robert Graham and the property being broken up into St Helen's, Jolimont and Bloomsbury (McClements 1975 A Town Called Proserpine, p67) There was a reprisal for this event: 'Mr. Isely, with six troopers after leaving Messrs. Macartney and Dempster's station, Bloomsbury, went on to St. Helen's station, where they dispersed three or four mobs of aborigines, who had been spearing and driving the cattle about in all directions in a very bold and reckless manner. The prompt measures taken to punish them for these outrages will, we doubt not, deter them from similar offences for some time, as they have found (to their cost) that such acts are not to be committed with impunity.'
