Has Description of EventFrom Wyandotte to the Messrs. Collins' station (Spring Creek) is fifteen miles (hard miles and no mistake.) Having partaken of the accommodation kindly afforded by the Messrs. Collins, we left next day for the Native Police camp at McKinnon's old station, twenty-five miles from Collins', and arriving we found a friend of ours in charge, Mr. acting Sub-Inspector Crompton, located there with one white constable and four troopers. My friend Mr. [Sub-Inspector] Crompton had just come in from a hunting excursion; the blacks it seems had been spearing Messrs. Collins' cattle, and had killed ten or twelve beasts. The darkies were tracked by the troopers, and when surprised the camps were found full of beef—however, all their spears were burnt, some 200, and the niggers "dispersed." Leaving the police camp [Western Creek], our next stage is Mr. Smith's station (Lyndhurst), twenty miles from the first-named place, where we got to by dinner-time.[1]
