  • MORETON BAY …. Most of the stations have this year obtained a fair crop of wheat from the paddocks brought under cultivation. The blacks have done considerable mischief to the maize and sweet potatoes, it being utterly impossible to keep them out of the growing crops; their depredations have in several instances been most annoying: at Captain Griffin's station, on the Pine River, they have filched away 250 bushells out of a paddock yielding about 300. As to the sweet potatoes, they, in one night, nearly made a clear sweep; in fact, their nightly depredations completely dishearten parties from growing those necessary articles when living in an isolated position (Sydney Morning Herald, 18 April 1846, p2).[1]all time · Row 0250 Eid 12608
