| Has Location Notes | Now called Long Island in the Whitsundays (http://www.atn.com.au/islands/long-island.html). This is a point on the eastern side of Long Island, since it is more likely that the ship was travelling on the outside of the island and this is one of two creeks on the island (the other is on the west coast). It is unknown where the spring was. | [1] |

| Has Nature of Event | Attack on Europeans/others | [1] |
| Has Primary Description Quote | The captain of the Jessie Anderson, schooner, while on his way from Bowen, put into Port Molle, in order to get a supply of fresh water, of which be had run short. Whilst he and the mate were taking the water-cask back to the boat from the spring where they had filled it, they were attacked by several blacks, and the captain received a very ugly wound on the back of the head from a tomahawk. He succeeded in frightening his assailants away for a few moments by pretending to draw a revolver, of the efficacy of which the blacks probably had previous experience. He and the mate then managed to run down to their boat, and get back to the schooner. | [1] |
| Has Secondary Description Quote | CAPTAIN H. YOUNG, of the "Jessie Anderson," schooner, which put into Mackay on the 9th inst., gives the following account of an attack made by the blacks on his mate and himself:— The "Jessie Anderson" left Bowen on the 3rd inst., bound for Maryborough; on the 8th inst they were in Port Molle, and had run short of fresh water. The captain and mate went ashore, taking a cask with them; they had to proceed about half-a-mile, from the beach before they got any water. After filling the cask they commenced rolling it back to where the boat was; suddenly a blackfellow rushed on the Captain from behind and struck him a couple of blows—one on the back of the head and one on the jaw, with a tomahawk, inflicting severe injuries, and felling him to the ground; Six or seven more blacks rushed upon the two men, who were quite unarmed. The Captain while struggling on the ground with the black who had first attacked him, succeeded in wresting the tomahawk from him, and, rising to his feet, he made a motion, as if to draw a revolver, and the blacks; who are perfectly acquainted with the power of this weapon, retreated to a little distance.. This gave the two men time, to run down to their boat and get in, but only just in time, as a considerable number of blacks, armed with knives and tomahawks, came rushing down the beach towards the boat, but they were fortunately too late to intercept the Captain and Mate, who got safely on board, and at once started for Mackay, where they arrived on Sunday last. | [1] |
