Has Description of EventhasDescriptionOfEvent
- ‘William Powell wrote that on 25 April 1855 a number of Aborigines had attacked his station, robbed the store, bound his son, and left his hutkeeper for dead on the grounds. This man was too seriously wounded to travel sixty miles to a justice of the peace to give his deposition. … Since that time Aborigines had taken a number of Powell's sheep and had even sent Powell word by other Aborigines that they intended to come to Walooga after the bunya season and take the whole of the sheep and stores and murder Powell and his men. As his circumstances would not permit his keeping more than two men, Powell wrote that this would be very easy to accomplish. He stated that the Native Police had called at Walooga eight times since the robbery on 25 April 1855 but only four times accompanied by an officer.’ (Skinner 1975:220-221)[1]all time · Row 0673 Eid 20528
