Has Description of Event QuotehasDescriptionOfEventQuote
- ‘About three weeks ago, the natives surrounded the hut occupied by Mr. John Stevens, on the Condamine River, while that gentleman was unable to move from his bed on account of severe illness, and ordered him and his man to leave the station. Fortunately for Mr. Stevens, a stockman from a neighbouring station happened opportunely to arrive at the time the natives were meditating an attack. On seeing him they retreated to the scrubs. Mr. Stevens has since left his station, and is now at the Springs, Darling Downs. Nearly all the cattle have been chased off the run by these insatiable ruffians.’ (The Australian 9 February 1847, p4)[1]all time · Row 0722 Eid 20755

| Has Location Notes Issues | It is not possible to plot Stevens’ run accurately since it is not marked on the 1846 Darling Downs New England Clarence Moreton Bay & Liverpool Plains Districts map (NLA MAP RaA 8 Plate 21). The western Aberdeen Co. (St Ruth’s) and Ross (Greenbank) property boundaries are on the 1864 Squatting map of the Darling Downs district Queensland shewing the proposed line of preemptive purchases townships reserves roads and approximate boundaries of runs with head stations, although the Myall Ck property is not. It may have been renamed Irvingdale. This is an arbitrary point on the Irvingdale run, which fits the location of the Myall Creek run in the MM & HRGA 1848. | [1] |
