Has Description of Event QuotehasDescriptionOfEventQuote

  • ‘About three weeks ago, the natives surrounded the hut occupied by Mr. John Stevens, on the Condamine River, while that gentleman was unable to move from his bed on account of severe illness, and ordered him and his man to leave the station. Fortunately for Mr. Stevens, a stockman from a neighbouring station happened opportunely to arrive at the time the natives were meditating an attack. On seeing him they retreated to the scrubs. Mr. Stevens has since left his station, and is now at the Springs, Darling Downs. Nearly all the cattle have been chased off the run by these insatiable ruffians.’ (The Australian 9 February 1847, p4)[1]all time · Row 0722 Eid 20755
