| Has Description of Event | '6. On my way from the Comet to Head Quarters with only two orderlies as an escort I came upon a very large camp of Blacks in the neighbourhood of Roxburgh – only a number of gins were in the camp at the time of my approach who made off at once. I searched the camp, suspecting that some of the late Mr Wills’s murderers were there, I found property which I believe is part of the spoil of the murderers, and which I shall send to Mr Wills Junior for identification. I destroyed such implements of warfare as were left in the camp, as I was leaving a number of Blacks (not less than a hundred) came out of a neighbouring scrub and attacked us, but we succeeded in scattering them, and I am sure that, that party will not collect again but I heard of two or three other large war parties, and received many complaints from squatters travellers and comers, particularly from Mr Thompson of Roxburgh. I have consequently sent Mr Cadet Johnson with a strong detachment to that locality he left here this day.'
