| Has Description of Event | A correspondent, writing from the Burke river, under date August 27, says :—“…A Chinaman gardener, by name Ah Sue, has been lately killed by the blacks at Bishop's creek, Cloncurry.” (Brisbane Courier, 27 September 1879, p5). “MURDER. ON the 5th ultimo the dead body of a Chinaman named Ah Sue was found in the bed of Spring Creek, between two mountains near Cloncurry, and about half a-mile from deceased's residence. The head was split open and almost severed from the body by some instrument, apparently a tomahawk. The following property was missed from his hut :- 1 double-barrelled gun, 1 small pistol, and 1 pair red blankets, identifiable. The keys were found hanging in the padlock ; a spear and a two-hand waddy were also found convenient, which causes suspicion to be attached to aboriginals who were then camped in the vicinity and are now supposed to be in the ranges at the head of Williams' River. 8th September, 1879.” (Qld Police Gazette, 1 October 1879, p112). | [1] |
