Has Description of EventhasDescriptionOfEvent
- Outrage by a Blackfellow. — A Chinaman named Ah You was seriously tomahawked on the head and back yesterday by one of the blacks lately brought into Atherton. It appears that he asked the Chinaman for tobacco, and upon the latter declining to give him any, he attacked him with a tomahawk. The police have started in pursuit of the blackfellow. (Wild River Times 12 July 1889, p2) "The Commissioner of Police has received word from Port Douglas that on the 11th instant a Chinaman named Ah You was tomahawked near Atherton by an aboriginal. The wounded man was taken to the Herberton hospital, and the doctor thinks that although the injuries are severe, several deep wounds having been inflicted on the forehead and nose, the man will get over it. The offender has been arrested by the Atherton police." (Week, 20 July 1889, p17).[1]all time · Row 0971 Eid 23484
