Has Description of Event QuotehasDescriptionOfEventQuote
- The blacks one day last week visited the Balnagowan run, and perpetrated their usual acts of barbarity upon the peaceful cattle. These determined robbers, and multilators of herds and flocks; commit their attacks almost under the very nose of the squatter who may chance to possess a station near the sea coast. Our informant states that the blacks were spearing and hunting the cattle within a mile of the head station, and that when he rode up to where these aggressors were indulging their savage propensities, not one of them could be seen, they had taken to their heels, and were of course quickly hidden out of sight, finding a refuge in the scrub, and defying the vengeance of the injured owner of the beeves. A moment's observation of the surrounding hill and plain, presented to the gaze a mob of cattle in disorderly flight, and racing at a pace as if their black tormentors were still whooping and 'hurling their weapons **** behind their tails. Some spears were picked up near the spot where the blacks attacked the cattle, but no search was made for any dead or wounded bovines, our informant judging it best to ride into town without delay in order to obtain the aid of the Native Police. A telegram was accordingly sent to the Nebo Barracks, and the Troopers no doubt have patrolled the run.[1]all time · Row 1093 Eid 32496
