Has DescriptionWholesale Spearing of Horses on the Port Douglas Road. — Shilson, the carrier, who it will be remembered lost the run of seven fine horses at the Mitchell, through the harassing attacks of the blacks, has again suffered a dreadful loss from their raids— this time near Mr. Fraser's camp on the Port Douglas Road. Twelve of his team are missing, and as the remains of nearly half that number have been found, he has only too good reason to suppose the others have been driven before the niggers, who are literally swarming in that district, to be killed at their convenience. Shilson rushed several mobs of them he came across when hunting for his cattle, but being unarmed he was unable to take the retribution he was entitled to. On his return to pick up a saddle horse which he had passed only half-an-hour previously six spears were sticking in the poor brute, and it died the same night. Out of two fine teams — through death and dispersion — Shilson has but ten left, and unfortunately the pick of his teams have gone. — Mining News.
