Has DescriptionANOTHER MURDER. ON Friday last (says the Cooktown Herald), a man named David Phillips, who is engaged looking after the mail horses at Deep Creek, arrived in town and reported that on the 10th January, while out looking for horses in the bush, he found the dead body of a Chinaman. The unfortunate wretch had evidently been murdered, as there was a deep gash from a tomahawk, extending from the eye to the month, and the nose smashed in. There were no clothes on the body, they apparently having been dragged off him ; no property was about except an old saucepan. Phillips buried the poor wretch, who had been dead three or four days. At present there is no clue to the murderers, who are supposed to be either countrymen of the deceased or Europeans, as Phillips states that there are no blacks in the district.[1]
