| Has Description | The old story —nothing ready; some running for horses, some loading, and all in great excitement. At last a party started in pursuit, but the blacks were already far ahead, making for the foot of the Range, which they ascended uttering unearthly yells, howling like a legion of devils, and prolific in every gesture of defiance — showering down spears upon the whites, and challenging them to fight. The party dismounting followed up the chase on foot, and brought the darkies to bay on the top of the Range, who showed fight, and were only dispersed by the loss of two of the mob—one being shot through the head, another taking down the side of the hill kept putting up his shield to save himself, but was fortunately dropped, receiving that fate he intended for others. | [1] |
