- SPEARING. — A gentleman, who arrived in town from the Palmer yesterday, places us in possession of facts relating to recent depredations by the blacks, at Battle Camp. On Thursday night or Friday morning last, a horse, one of Mr. Joyce's leaders, valued at £70, was speared and killed, every particle of meat being taken off the bones, even up to the head. Another horse, the property of Mr. Tucker, and a mare owned by Mr. Joyce are also missing. From the tracks it appears that there was a very large party of the blacks, and our informant states that a visit of the Native Police to the locality is greatly needed. — Cooktown Herald.
