• MARYBOROUGH. The Maryborough Chronicle, of the 12th and 19th instant, has the following:— A most daring case of sticking up by the blacks occurred on Monday Ult, on the Gayndah road, about six miles from Maryborough, Mr. Glles, with two drays loaded with stores, was proceeding to his station, when at Six Mlle Creek he found himself suddenly surrounded by a mob of armed blacks, the leader of which commenced on instant attack upon him, by hurling his nullah at Mr. Giles' head. To save his face, Mr. Giles raised his arm, and received the larger part of its force there, but the weapon glanced from his arm and struck him a little above the left eye, inflicting a severe wound, at the same time terribly bruising the arm. A little girl was accompanying Mr. Giles, and one of the brutes took up a large stone and threw it at her, which happily Mr.Mr Giles caught in its flight, though in doing so his finders were cut nearly to the bone. While this was going on the other blackfellows were busy at the drays, the coverings of which were quickly removed and freely helping themselves to flour, sugar, tea, and tobacco; they all made their way to the river bank close at hand, where it appears they had a canoe or boat moored, in which the plundered articles were placed, and the whole then crossed the river with their spoil, It is evident the attack was pre-arranged. The whole time, from their first appearance to their dis-appearance Mr, Giles says was not more than seven minuter. As soon as the intelligence reached Maryborough the police magistrate despatched the whole of the available force to the scene of the depredation—a sergeant and one man—but of course they could do nothing towards recovering the property or punishing the marauders.
