Has DescriptionhasDescription

  • PORT DENISON. (From the Port Denison Times, July 6.) … Next day Mr. Davidson and four others went over to try and recover the property that had been left behind. They tracked the blackfellows to Gould Island by the trail of the oars, which they had dragged after them; there they destroyed several camps, at the last of which they discovered some of the lost property. Whilst there they were challenged to fight by some blackfellows, who had taken up a position on a hill about 700 feet high, and covered with boulders knocking their swords against their shields. They accepted the challenge, and, making their way from tree to tree, to avoid the boulder-stones that the blackfellows were rolling down on them, succeeded in about two hours in getting to the summit. They there found more of the lost property, which, together with a string of canoes belonging to the blackfellows, they brought back to Cardwell with them.[1]all time · Row 1851 Eid 53443
