- Maytown. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) December 26. Notwithstanding the salutary lessons taught to the blacks by the native police, they occasionally make raids on isolated Chinamen. During the week a mob of Mosman River blacks attacked a Chinese camp about two miles from Cobb's stables, twelve miles from Maytown. The blacks killed two of them, and the third is supposed to have escaped, and have been lost in the bush, no trace having been found of him up to the present time. Two white police and some volunteers from the town went to the scene of the murder, and subsequently Sub-inspector Stafford and troopers started in pursuit, hoping to track the mob. Heavy showers of rain obliterate the tracks, so it is very doubtful if the troopers are able to avenge the celestials' death. This makes the fifth death during the present year caused by the blacks. Robbery and want of food seems to be the chief motive.[1]all time · Row 2148 Eid 61783
