Described in QuotedescribedInQuote
- The blacks of the Nebo district are becoming very bold and dangerous since the removal of the native police under Sub-Inspector Freudenthal. At Wandoo cattle were speared. At Oakenden, the property of Mr. A. Kemmis, a mob of blacks about thirty in number, were particularly dangerous. Not long ago the leader of the mob, named Hector, armed with a spear, entered the play room of the children, who called Mr. Kemmis. The rest of the blacks stood off thirty yards or so. Hector, upon being ordered off would not go, but showed fight by poisoning his spear, and Mr. Kemmis was obliged to rush to take the spear from him. A severe struggle for the spear took place, which fortunately ended in the blackfellow being defeated. Hector then ran towards the crowd of blacks, shouting for a tomahawk, which he got from a gin, and upon advancing towards the house with it in his hand, a gun was brought to Mr. Keminis, who upon presenting it at the blackfellow made him beat a hasty retreat. If Mr. Kemmis had not been at home it is hard to say what circumstance might have happened.[1]all time · Row 2193 Eid 61937
