Has Description of EventhasDescriptionOfEvent
- "MACKAY … Intelligence was brought by a gentleman who arrived in town on the 11th ultimo, that some short time prior to his leaving Bloomsbury station a case of sticking-up by the blacks had occurred at Alligator Creek, where it crosses the Bowen-road. It appears that the victim of this last instance of black scoundrelism was a poor traveller journeying alone, who, while resting himself close to the creek suddenly found himself surrounded by six or seven blackfellows, whose appearance and hostile demonstrations at once revealed their intentions to be anything but friendly. The vagabonds seeing they had nothing to fear from an unarmed individual, lost no time in stripping him of everything he possessed, and then decamped into the bush, fortunately without doing the poor fellow further injury, which may be wondered at considering how few lonely wayfarers have escaped with their lives after being robbed by the blacks under similar circumstances. The unlucky man quickly made off towards the Bloomsbury Native Police barracks, and reported what had befallen him to Sub-inpector Frudenthal, who immediately with his troopers started in search of the black robbers. The result of the pursuit by the police had not transpired when our informant left Bloomsbury." (Port Denison Times and Kennedy District Advertiser, 28 January 1871, p2; Queenslander, 18 February 1871, p10 [2])[1]all time · Row 2227 Eid 62049
