| Has Description | Another barbarous murder has been committed by the blacks. The scene this time is the Bowen Downs, and their victim one of the late arrivals by the "Maryborough." It appears the unfortunate man's name was Barney, and he had been engaged from the depot to proceed to the Flinders with drays. On the morning of the murder his companion went out looking for horses, and the poor fellow was left in charge of the camp; on returning they found their mate with his skull split as if with a tomahawk, but the murderers were disturbed in their work, for nothing was missed from the drays. A search was at once instituted, and a mob of blacks camped in the vicinity "dispersed" in the usual approved manner. | [1] |
