| Has Description of Event | Horrible Murder. Killed by Normanby Blacks. Body Hacked to Pieces. Cooktown. May 21. Last Sunday Jno. Davis sent a blackboy named "Smoke," about 14, to look for lost horses. The boy was met by the Normanby blacks, who cut his throat, severed his hands and feet from the body, and buried the mutilated remains. Yesterday, Davis was informed of the murder by the blacks, and he communicated with the inspector of police, who despatched the black trackers. They surprised the blacks' camps early yesterday morning, and found "Smoke's" remains as before mentioned. They are now in pursuit of the murderers. | [1] |
