The following paragraph, which we clip from the Cleveland Bay Express, is significant of the feeling prevalent in the North towards the aborigines: — "Shocking Brutality. — On Tuesday afternoon, a blackfellow of most inoffensive habits, was lying asleep off the road at the end of Flinders-street, when some maliciously disposed person shot him in the side of the head. The charge penetrated the skin and caused a very severe wound on the ear and face. We do not profess to be in love with our sable brethren of Cleveland Bay, still we think such wanton cruelty should not pass unnoticed." The editor actually considers him self under obligation to apologise for mentioning an act which, if the police did their duty, ought to subject its author to several years penal servitude.
