| Has Description of Event | On Friday about noon, the Gayndah mailman brought intelligence into Maryborough that the blacks in ambush at Copenhagen Bend (the scene of their former depredations) had stuck-up the government dray conveying rations to the road-party at work on this line. When he passed, some twenty or thirty of them were actively engaged pillaging the stores. Being single-handed he deemed discretion the better part of valour, and clapping spurs to his horse he soon put himself at a safe distance from them. Information was immediately given by him of what had occurred. And a roll up of mounted police were sent out, but before they arrived the blacks had taken what booty (flour, sugar, and tea principally) that pleased them, and then in their canoe made for their lair on the other side of the river. Pursuit, of course, was impossible. We understand the driver of the dray was struck by a nullah-nullah which was hurled at him and severely hurt. The camp of the road party was also attacked by blacks, but we have not learnt particulars. | [1] |

During the long period of eight years this scoundrel has been ringleader in all the most notable robberies by the blacks in this district. He was the principal concerned in the sticking up of the drays on Copenhagen bend on the Gayndah road, about three years ago, on which occasion the bullock drivers were put to rout, and the goods conveyed across the river and planted in a scrub. | [1] |
