Synopsis. Unsettled weather is general over Victoria, Tasmania, and South Australia, with strong winds from between north-west, west, and south-west, with rough seas. It is fine in coastal parts of New South Wales, but in the interior the conditions are fair. Rain is threatening or falling in Western Australia, and also on the west coast of New Zealand. Principal rainfalls : Carnarvon, 0 29in.; Crafers, 0 85in.; Adelaide, 9-10.; Albury, 0 04in Wilson's Promontory, 0.50. Queensland.-Unsottlod conditions are noted, and have prevailed in the north-east with some rain, as expected. Inland the weather is generally fine, with some cloud, and mostly sold, under winds between west, south-west,- and south-east. Frosts have been general over the Darling Downs and Peak Downs. Sea generally moderate; fresh to rough in the north-east. Extreme temperatures North : 90deg. at Normanton, 41deg. at Richmond. Central ; 75deg. at Avon Downs, SOdog. at Tambo. South: 78deg. at Sandy Cape, 25deg. at Warwick and Stanthorpe. Storm waVoS'StiUform a marked feature over the Southern Ocean, especially between Tasmania and the south of New Zealand. The new high-pressure system is now central over the south coast of Western Australia, and gradually making easting, the slopes from the nucleus now overlapping the whole of Eastern Australia, except the coast line between Robe in South Australia and Cape St. George. Forecasts, 5 p.m., 22nd June: Western Australia. Chiefly fine; light showers here and there in the extreme south-west and south. Winds easterly north from Perth. Northern Territory and Central Australia.Generally fine throughout with areas of cloud ; south-easterly winds blowing fresh in places. South Australia. Chiefly fine in agricultural and northern areas ; still squally and showery along the southern coast line, especially in the neighbourhood of Cape Northumberland, where strong winds from between west and south-west are still probable with high seas. Shipping note. Queensland. North : Still rather unsettled, especially over the Peninsula, with strong south-easterly winds and threatening > rain a (bier in-land., Sea rather rough north from Cooktown. Central and South : Chiefly fine with areas of cloud ; a few unimportant showers may be noted. Sea moderate. Winds rather variable, a south-westerly tendency prevailing in south-eastern parts, and south-easterly in the far west. New South Wales Mostly fine with some cloud ; cold spells still probable, especially in the north. In the far south further squalls from westward with local showers. Sea moderate, but shipping further specially advised of heavy weather south-east from Gabo towards New Zealand. Victoria. Chiefly fine and cold in the north, but still decidedly squally, with showers along the seaboard, where strong winds from between west-north-west and south-west will yet obtain with patches of rough sea. Shipping note. Tasmania. Same as the coast districts of Victoria. New Zealand.-Still mostly fine in the north, but further squally and showery weather is impending south from Wellington, especially in the neighbourhood of The Bluff. Clement L. A great festival took place last week in a village in the Times Valley in Servia (writes the Standard's Vienna correspondent) to celebrate the baptism of no fewer than 400 Mahomedan gipsies, belonging to the tribe of Ibrahim Hamil. There are still a number of gipsies in the country who belong to the creed of Islam ; but one tribe after another is induced to embrace the Orthodox Faith on the strength of their " expectations" from their sponsors. Nor were the 400 disappointed in that respect. The men appeared at the ceremony in brand new I garments, the women and girls were adorned with real gold and silver ornaments, presents from the wives of the rich merchants in the district, and after the baptism, which was performed by the Bishop of Zaitchar, there was a great popular fete. Sheep were roasted whole at open fires, wine flowed in abundance, and when the popular dance, the role, began in front of the church the new Servian Christians acquitted themselves nobly. Mahomedan gipsies are not known outside Turkey and the former Turkish provinces.
