It has been highly successful throughout, the tuen having had excellent training, and not the slightest unpleasantness occurred. It is understood the Mackay In-fantry Company have requisitioned the Com-mandant for inclusion in the Kennedy Regiment, and be was favourable to the ap-plication. Sir Charles Lil'ey's circular relative to the petition to Government for establishing a Queensland University waB read at a meeting of the Townsville Municipal Council yester-day, and it was decided not to support the idea. it is probable the Acting Chief Secretary (the Hon. J. R. Dickson) will acoompany the Governor on hie tour in the Central District. In the Snpreme Court to-day, George Brown was charged with the murder of his wife, and found guilty of manslaughter. He was sentenced to fifteen years' penal servi-tude. Brown was arrested some time ago, and charged with violently assaulting his wife, who subsequently died. The medical testimony showed that the cause of death was acute bronchitis, but that the injuries in-flicted by the husband caused a shock which hastened that event. The police have received information that several churches have been entered lately, and various articles stolen. They have arrested a Frenchman named Emil Aubrey, who is known to have stolen a large Bible from St. Stephen's Cathedral. Other stolen articles were also found in bis possession. It appears that Aubrey ia an accomplished thief. He was well known tu the caretaker of St. Stephen's Cathedral, who saw bim continually in the church praying, and always changixuz his seat. Bibles have also been stolen from St John's Pro-Cathedral and All Saints' Cbnrcb, besides sundry amati ornaments. Robberies from houses have been very frequent lately, and Brisbane appears to be swarming with thieves. Fresh criminals are continually arriving from the southern colonies. A young mao named James H arkins was arrested yesterday just as he was leaving by train, and a number of gold and silver watches, and some jewellery, were found in bis possession. The greater number of the articles have been identified by persona from whose houses they were stolen. The accused was brought up at thc Police Court to day, and remanded. Aubrey also appeared at the Court to day, and waB charged with stealing three pair of vases from the altar of St. Stephen's Cathedral. He was remanded. The de-parture of the Balmain, s.s., for Townsville oía ports, has been postponed till nine o'clock to-morrow evening, owing to tbe thick weather outside, and the Waroonga was nuable to enter the Bay for the same reason. MARLBOROUGH, May 31. Mr. J. R. Murray passed to-day with 334 store bullocks, from Conway, the same .- cumber from Mount Lookout, and 177 from . Messrs. Patullo Brothers' station. They are ' all for Messrs. Skyring's Prairie and Baffle Creek Stations. Tbs days are warm and cloudy, and the nights quite cool and foggy.
